“Basil,” as l knew him, was my History master, at O and A level.

l later became a teacher myself, and actually modelled my classroom teaching style on him.

His was an extraordinary record in service to the College; which he lived and loved, and even married into. A veritable “Mr. Chips,” who knew the names of all OPs over a tremendous period of time. Outstanding, brave in his clarity about what needed changing, resourceful and inspirational!
