John Barber
John was a very dear colleague and friend and will be missed – near and far. At swiss railways (SBB) we enjoyed his good spirit as much as his deep knowledge on all aspects of railway operation, maintenance and safety. Deeply saddened we have heard the news that John has gone on his final journey.
It was a privilege to meet and work with John. In our work on quality and safety he was an extremely competent and passionate railway man. His personal contribution to our meetings were not only a well founded statements of expertise and the correction of our German/French/Italian…variations of the English language, but much more than this the caring for the perspective and well-being of others. In fact it was very inspiring to better understand the world of UK railway through the explanations given by John.
Personally we have met many times in London, Paris and Berlin and I do remember well strolling over the Berliner Messe outside gardens during Innotrans and talking about Jon Bon Jovi in Berlin…
We will remember John in Switzerland as in many other corners of the world as a great colleague and gentleman with the best of British humour.
Please accept our heartfelt condolescence, whishing comfort and peace to Johns family in these times of farewell.
