Jill and I first met in 2020, working as part of a new strategy directorate in GDS. Jill was in charge of running the director’s office and made me feel like I belonged when I was newly promoted and feeling very much like an imposter in my first deputy director role. Jill brought the same warmth and care for others to all her teams. Without ego or fuss she’d get things done, challenge things that weren’t right or fair – often standing up for others to do so, and get stuck in to solve a problem. Jill was someone that you wanted to be on the same team with and I was lucky to work with Jill again when she ran the programme office for gov.uk, and again just over a year later when we hatched a plan for her to join One Login. Jill brought her characteristic energy and fun to her role as Head of Programme Delivery. I always looked forward to our catch ups, particularly in the lead up to my going on mat leave as I really valued her practical advice for coping with a new baby. Jill made such a massive difference in a very short amount of time and will be sorely missed. My sincere condolences to her daughters and grandchildren, who she spoke about often with such pride and affection.
