Hari-Gopal Jamalapuram

Hari-Gopal, Sudhaker and I met in 1959, when we enrolled in Keshev Memorial High School. We were initially interested in Engineering and were opting to major in Math and physics. The school was short of staff and lacking a math teacher. We were all bunched together with biology major students. Over a month all three of us bonded and did not want to go to math and physics, when a new math teacher was hired. The rest is history.

Since we’re all three of us we’re vertically challenged, teacher made us sit in the front row. It also happened that we three shared top three spots in every exam over the next four years. We graduated in 1963 with first class at state finals. All three of us had grades to join medical school but had to sit out a year, as were under age, and were accepted in 1964.

All through High School , after hours we met mostly at Sudhaker’s and sometimes Hari’s house. Hari’s sisters were always hospitable.  Both of their mothers treated as an extra sons. They were fun times.

After medical school I went to US, Sudhaker and Hari went to UK. Both of them visited me in US and I met them few times in Hyderabad.

PS. As I look at the pictures posted by Sudhaker it is surreal that they take me back to back streets of Bharkatpura where Hari lived with his mother and two sisters. Rest in peace my friend.
