Paul Hatton

I was truly shocked and saddened to hear of Paul’s unexpected death.

I first worked with Paul when he was at BAe Woodford, as I was the CAA Design Surveyor for the AVRO146 RJ and ATP from the early 1990s.

I was pleased to see him join CAA a few years later. His model aircraft (and in particular model helicopter) making and flying skills impressed everyone, at the summer barbeques we had as part of the Aircraft Proijects team in those days.

Paul and I went to EASA in Cologne in 2005. Being part of a growing organisation in those early days was both challeneging, but also exciting. Paul brought his experience and pragmatism to the work of the GA team there, and his input was always highly valued by his colleagues from across Europe.

Meeting him again when he retired from EASA and re-joined the CAA reminded me waht a truly nice person Paul was, a gentleman in every sense of the word.

My sincerest sympathies to Paul’s family.
