Makoto Shimoji
I knew him from his arrival in DERS and we were in similar microeconomic theory type fields. He joined me in teams for teaching at the MSc level and at 3rd year level. Typically the courses were divided into topic areas with maybe say 3 or 4 topics for a 20 credit course and one of the team would each take one of these. I had also established research clusters in DERS including one at that time in microeconomic theory and Makoto participated diligently in this. Our research fields were not identical bur Makoto was a diligent colleague with a strong commitment to intellectual life and a very strong sense of duty. Over the years he obviously educated many students through his lectures. So there will always be a legacy both in this and in his research publications. His memory will not fade.
