Hazel
I have known Hazel since the age of 9. Our lifelong friendship started in the playground of Kingarth st playing british bulldogs, I remember really wanting Hazel on my team and I feel that she has been ever since. Hazel excelled at school sports and loved the outdoors. We shared a love of skiing and during our first trip up north it quickly became apparent that she excelled on the slopes too. I have spent many a happy hour trying to keep up with her ! Hazel and I studied together at Edinburgh university where she seemed to sail through exams. Her down to earth manner and caring approach was appreciated by patients and she passed smoothly through the clinical phase of uni too. Aside from hill walks and skiing, a very funny holiday in Greece and some studying, we did of course fit in some partying, as all good students do and had many happy nights in the flat or on the town, when sometimes we could even persuade her to go dancing. We started working, met and married our partners and remained close. We were both lucky enough to have children and we continued to meet and chat, go for walks and share in each others lives. Family was the most important thing for Hazel and she was so incredibly proud of Euan. She was a very private person and when she spoke of her illness it was about how it might affect Euan and her family and not about herself. She was friendly and down to earth, practical, and honest and as a friend utterly dependable. Hazel could always be relied on, would tell it like it is and suffer no nonsense. She was incredibly loyal and I have always known how fortunate I have been to have her as a friend. She was a wonderful person and will be sorely missed by all who knew her xx
