Louise Willcox

Louise interviewed me in 1995. Scrupulously fair, five men and five females were recruited. When we joined the BBC, Louise a passionate and excellent BECTU rep, sent a letter encouraging us to join the union. I remember the letter describing the broadcast industry as fun, with Louise it usually was fun. Although, through the night rigging in Studio A, Pebble Mill tested the fun element. It wasn’t the politics that mattered, it was always the people.

Louise really cared about people, and lately, I have enjoyed catching up with her in socially distanced conversations in the glamorous showbiz location of the BBC Bristol car park. True to Outside Broadcast form, her TV truck was sited next to the bogs and bins. Louise loved hearing that people that she had helped develop, were all thriving. She cared for people and wanted the best for everyone.

Her warmth and laughter will be missed by us all, and her passing means that broadcasting will be a little less fun and we, her people, will really miss her.
