Wendy Chalk
How do you sum up someone’s influence in a few lines?
I first met Wendy when she came into the education department after her long stint as an operational manager. She was my line manager, as I was a then South-London complex-based Tutor. We got on well; she was supportive and believed in empowerment. But before too long, staff retirements led to me applying for a promotion, and I found myself as her peer, having been successful in gaining the Practice Learning Manager post in west London. So the three of us – Wendy, myself and Gary Ralph – settled into our roles, and for me I entered the best period of my career, for which I will forever be truly grateful. I believe we achieved some great things as a three; we had similar mindsets, similar clinical backgrounds [all ex-HEMS], and Wendy was our grounded and experienced, (slightly) elder statesperson. Somewhere along the way, we also all discovered we liked a meal out, which we did with other friends & colleagues on a regular basis. I’ll never forget, and take great comfort from, the memories of laughter, both socially and at work. To Graham and Wendy’s family, I offer my sincere and heartfelt condolences, but hope you are comforted by the fact that she was admired, respected and loved.
