Knew Jim at Durham but got to know him much better through attendance at Radical Statistics where he was an active participant and always had something  useful and supportive to say to people presenting work. In simply summay let me give the highest form of Geordie praise – Jim was a fully paid up member of the human race.  He will be much missed.
