Michael was the best boss and I was fortunate to land sitting next to him at the start of my litigation career in his team. His sharp and loud character was evident from day 1 and that was consistent over the years of morning greetings / calls and meetings. He always gave 110% and taught me so much over the years, I know this is true of many others who will miss his charismatic leadership and openness. His energy and presence couldn’t be dulled and to say he will be missed is a huge understatement.

He managed to juggle a varied and fast-paced workload, with always being a support and voice for those around him. Nothing was ever too much for Michael and he brought the best of himself to being a team leader and exceptional lawyer every day. His exclamations, sharp decisive views and dictations were a soundtrack to the 5th floor (and further!) I will always remember some of his comments and advice, I’ll never work on a case without searching out what I think he might have said to me about it… I’ll miss the energy he bought to solving any issue (for clients or myself) and his calls for swift beers on short notice. We would joke about being “Fenned” on several occasions – this was a surprise short-notice outing to the pub with Michael, and the team, that was always longer than you may have planned for and involved multiple iconic stories. There will undoubtedly be a very unique gap to be felt in the team as we have known it.

Michael was an absolute legend and an honour to have known and worked with. His ability to be a fierce litigator, sharp on knowledge and practice, whilst also being a man of humour and support was inspirational.

Sending wishes and condolences to all his family and friends feeling the sad loss of such a brilliant man, his memory and reputation will always stay with us. Danielle (M)
