Helen, it was a pleasure to get to know you and for Chris to re-discover a friendship, made in the kitchens of Shell Research in the 1980s, when Charlie joined 4th Milton years later. We can’t thank you enough for the opportunities, encouragement and guidance you have always given him, culminating in your support for his WSJ adventure last summer.Charlie always had a massive smile on his face when we collected him from a Scout activity, invariably covered in “quality” mud. You always handed him back with a smile to match Charlie’s and the wise words “the washing machine will sort the mud, the memories will last”…how true. Although our washing machine never truly recovered from Wintercamp 2020. The drains of Sittingbourne definitely flowed with Gilwell mud that year.We are devastated at your passing, but what a legacy you leave…100s of Sittingbourne young people, like Charlie, who are more adventurous, more resilient and better prepared for adulthood because of your influence in their young lives. Thank you.Our thoughts are with your family.
