Mary Ireland

As a Head Teacher, Mary was supportive, empowering, empathetic and straight talking. For eight years, she lived and breathed Bancroft’s and her love for it was evident, from the pride in her voice to the way in which she fully immersed herself in every aspect of the school. Whether it was a concert in London, a trip to Wales, or a netball tournament in Southampton, Mary’s Glaswegian accent and infectious laugh could be heard all around. As a friend, Mary was also dependable, honest, trustworthy and always up for a social gathering! We shared a love of champagne and good wine, and she taught me a thing or two about both. Despite retiring, Mary’s support and friendship never ceased and catching up with her always brought a lot of laughter. I learnt a lot from Mary and I will forever be grateful for her wisdom and guidance. My deepest condolences to Simon, Fergus and the family.
