Stephen Palmer

Acht! I am really sad to hear this news. My condolences to all of Stephen’s family, his friends and his colleagues at Creative Scotland and my thoughts are with the wider visual arts communities in Scotland and beyond too. Stephen’s dedication to the sector means that each and every one of, across many generations, has benefited from his thoughtfulness, intellect, grace. I did not really have the pleasure of knowing him personally but my practice has been greatly shaped, influenced and developed by the incredible support he showed my work, especially when I began to develop a curatorial practice around the moving image and film; and then again as I began to concentrate my resources on my work on 16mm film. I think I understood his passion for risk and ambition by different kinds of artists as well as a deep understanding of artists not wanting to only develop but change. I am deeply grateful for of all of this. “He will wipe away every tear from their eyes, and death shall be no more, neither shall there be mourning, nor crying, nor pain anymore, for these former things have passed away.” May the rest of Stephen’s journey be beautiful, peaceful and infinite.
