In Loving Memory of

Vantil Charles

As we share a sense of deep loss at the passing of Vantil, we hope this Book of Rememberance from his friends and colleagues at Capital will bring comfort and support to his wife, Lilian, and his sons, Oliver and Cameron, as well as to each other.

Vantil’s impact at work reached far beyond LDO and Fixed Income. He had an innate ability to connect with people and bring warmth, fun and integrity to all his interactions. He impacted everyone he met with his wisdom, his sense of humour and his unforgettable dress sense. He was also a fantastic long term investor who never lost sight of our mission. We are all, no doubt, better human beings for having known him and we will miss him dearly.

Please use this Book of Rememberance as a way of sharing your happy memories & love for Vantil, our treasured friend and colleague.

I knew Vantil very well as a school friend back in the early to mid 1970s when we were at Cove County Comprehensive, Farnborough. I only heard early today that he had passed away and though late, I, nevertheless, wish to convey my condolences to his family and friends. Vantil was a talented football player and sportsman when I knew him and I use to envy his skills as he use to wizz past me on the football pitch. I remember him as always smiling and having a cheeky big grin. He did this even when playing soccer. He was well liked by many chums and friends. Regretabally, I lost contact with him. I always asked about his whereabouts, and a joint friend told me that he worked at Natwest so I tried numerous times to contact him via facebook, etc but without success.  I am sure that he is smiling over us all up there in heaven giving joy to others. May God bless his soul. Good bye my dear friend.   Dr William Ronald Coram-  Ron Gibraltar…

Vantil was an extremely special person. We will remember him for his humour, intelligence, honesty and support. I had worked with Vantil throughout my 9 years at Exane, and at ABN/RBS prior to that – so our connection goes back a long way, during which time I learned a lot from him, as did my research colleagues. He was a very inspirational and modest man. We enjoyed our meetings and benefited from the active debates we had on many subjects over the years, including Vantil’s key sectors. We will also remember his fabulous and unique dress-sense – only he could carry off such vibrant clothing – fun and flamboyant shirts and shoes. Vantil had an engaging and warm personality, and a natural affinity with people. We know that he will be sorely missed by his family, colleagues and friends. Sending our condolences at this sad and difficult time….

That winning smile, that always got to you, Truly disarming because it was so genuine. My heart-felt condolences go out to Vantil’s family. I interacted only periodically with Vantil but I always looked forward to it because I knew he would be welcoming, he would care, and more likely than not we would end up laughing. His personality was all-enveloping. He leaves behind a srong legacy from a work perspective and an even stronger one from a human one. I cherish my memories of him….

To Lilian and family – we share with you the sense of loss of the shining light and amazing warmth that was Vantil.  His smile and wry wit complimented his acute intellect and drive to succeed.  He had all of that as well as a keen sense to stay focused on what was right for clents, the community and the world at large.  He would come to me with a challenging question or statement, and he usually had a look like he had just taken the best cookie from the jar without permission.  That always made me smile, and was very disarming.  We will miss him so much, and I promise to keep the inspiration he gave to all of us to work hard and be kind close to my heart. …

Vantil never failed to bring a smile to my face. There was just something about seeing him or hearing his voice or his wonderful laugh that could brighten any day. There is a huge hole in the hearts of all of CG who knew him. I will miss him terribly but am so very happy to have the wonderful memories of Vantil, always happy, always smiling, always bringing joy to our lives.     …

Vantil with his big smile brightened everyone’s day. His ability to think differently and see the world in a unique way was so valuable to Capital and was great to learn from. I had the good fortune to sit outside Vantil’s office from 2017, prime position to observe the warmth, humour and generosity he brought to the office daily and in every interaction with the constant flow of visitors in and out of his office. His voice and laughter brought a happy bassline and energy to the office, always notable by their absence if he was travelling. I’ll feel that ever more so when we return to the office. Most of all I’ll remember his generosity of spirit and time he gave to others, whomever they were. I first met him at a Fredericks Foundation panel when his engagement and passion he shared with the applicant were striking. He invested in people. He set a truly high bar for us all. My deepest sympathy to his family and many friends. I’m very grateful to have known him….

It is difficult to describe the impact he has had on me, but I’m certain I’m a better man for having known him. He was truly one of a kind. He was not only a mentor and someone I looked up to, but more importantly, a great friend. I will forever be grateful for having crossed paths with him. The London office will never be the same without him and his green checkered coat. My deepest and heartfelt condolences to Lilian, Oliver and Cameron….

My condolences to the Charles family – very sorry for your loss.   Vantil was a huge character in the office: a first class investor, ESG pioneer and a caring colleague.  We’ll miss him enormously but very glad of the time we had and very proud to have known him….

Through our unwavering commitment to an un-rushed, hearty lunch, most days of a working week, I got the chance to get to know Vantil and learn a lot from him. He had such a unique combination of light-heartedness and care for individuals around him. He did not take himself too seriously, yet excelled at most things he turned his mind to. I will miss him, so sorry that the family has to suffer such an untimely loss….

You breathed life into every room you stepped in. Thank you, for inspiring us to work hard. Thank you, for inspiring us to work as a team. But most of all thank you for being so authentically yourself, and allowing us to feel comfortable to do the same. Your laughter will be missed in the hallways. Your smile will be missed in the mornings. But your values will live on. Not a moment will go by, where I will not think of you and what you have done for our company and community. Only you could make a place of work feel like a home. May you rest in eternal peace. …
