In Loving Memory of

Sonya Malik Butterfield

Sonya very tragically left us on Thursday the 7th of September 2023. She leaves behind her beloved daughter Laila, the light of Sonya’s life.

In her 52 yrs, Sonya made friends all over the world. She had a passionate kindness, and a wonderful tolerance of others, that made her the very best of companions. A steadfast patient loving mother to Laila, Sonya fought ferociously for her daughter in every possible way.

In life Sonya was too modest of her remarkable achievements but in memory of her, the wonderful person that touched us all, please share your stories, anecdotes, photos and more.

A service to celebrate Sonya’s life will be held on Saturday 30th September at 12.30pm, St Hilda, Warley Woods, 269, Abbey Road, West Bromwich B67 5NQ.

Prior to this, a cremation service will be held for family and close friends at 11am at the Sandwell Valley Crematorium, Newton Road, West Bromwich B71 3SX.

We invite everyone to a reception from 2 to 5pm at the Lightwoods Primary Academy (EYFS&KS1), Clent Road, Oldbury B68 0LP.

Please do bring photos and memories that we can gather together for everyone to share.

Sonya, above all you were a fun person. The sparkle and mischief in your eyes was a joy to see A glance across the room at choir and a cheeky Whatsapp Teasing or making a witty observation Sometimes a voice message when you had more to say In your plummy voice and slight drawl Though I did think at first you were Welsh! And your love of music whether singing, listening or playing We shared music from Spotify and had overlapping taste Guilty secrets like Dean Friedman Kacey Musgraves, James Taylor and The Chicks You loved Scotland, as I do and Dougie McClean’s Caledonia You were a wine pourer and you got us drunk Julie especially though she wouldn’t admit it And it was great Above all you were a brilliant Mum with infinite patience, love and devotion You touched our hearts and will always dwell there A part of our lives that will always be fun!…
