Roger Waters-Duke

Roger will be remembered for the kind-hearted and generous person he was. Going out of his way to help, support and guide. Always putting others ahead of himself.

As Finance Director, Roger was an intrinsic part of the leadership team that transformed the company into the successful business it is today and saw it through many changes with energy, enthusiasm and professionalism. He will be greatly missed by all.

Roger was a great colleague and a friend. I miss the early morning calls or end of day catch ups we shared. I miss his happy face, peer through the door of the office. Full of energy … he was often difficult to track down, as he was always on the move. He took interest in everyone .. would take time out of his busy day to listen and talk. His deep source of finance knowledge was valued by many and he would always be willing to share that with others. He was clearly so proud of his family, often talking about the girls achievements at various stages of their lives. He made himself available to everyone and didn’t want to let anyone down .. personally or professionally. His contribution to our lives and to the business will not be lost .. but he will be greatly missed! …

Dear Claire, Eloise and Sophie. I worked with Roger for just over a year, he was one of the most positive and energetic people that I’ve ever met. I will miss his guidance and his support, but most of all I will miss our chats which could range from anything between his time in the Hebrides to his time in practice. In essence he was a thoroughly decent person who would happily give his time to you on the most menial of tasks. …

Hi Roger,   It had been an absolute pleasure to work with you. I learnt a lot and I will miss our early morning / late night meetings( always hard to get hold you during normal working hours) I will also miss your jokes whwn we are all in the office. The place will not be the same without you. …

Claire, Eloise & Sophie, what can I say, I still find it hard to accept he won’t appear next to me pulling up a stool asking if I was busy & completely ignoring the answer, following that with “this will make you laugh….”, which would queue the expectation of a “dad joke”, a lot of eye rolling, accompanied by laughter (and fairly frequently telling him the correct punchline!). My memories of our days at Oxford Brookes still make me laugh, from being taught to cook by Mike on a 2 ring Belling, to water fights in the tower (least said about Roger hiding in a lift the better!). Law lectures that went over his head, to the Stats & computers lectures that went over mine, give you any clues about who did whose course work….. Girls, he was so proud of you, any achievement large or small was shared with pride & love & we all here at HM loved hearing it all. Roger was truly one of the good guys, always had time for people & genuinely cared, never had a bad word to say about anyone. I don’t believe that any of us will stop missing him. …

It was a privilege to have known and worked with Roger. He was brilliant at his job and beyond that he was always approachable, kind and helpful. He helped me in many ways. His young family would occasionally visit him in the office and his pride and love for them was clear to see, condolences to them. Roger was a good man and taken too soon. RIP Roger you will be sadly missed.  Philip King.  …

Claire, Eloise and Sophie I will miss Roger dearly.  To know that he will no longer pop out to “just borrow me for five minutes” or to flop into the chair next to me for a chat about aircraft or computers or whatever is difficult to believe and accept.  He was the most genuinely lovely man, with time for everyone and always wanting to help, I cannot count the amount of times I sought his help or guidance on money or personal matters and everytime he offered his time and knowledge without limits.  I’ll also remember all the jokes and the card tricks that he used to do that ensure that you always left him with a smile.  Always remember that he loved and was proud of you all in everything you did. …

Roger was one of the good guys. I enjoyed the benefit of his knowledge and guidance for 12 years at Hilson Moran. He was the first to help should there be an issue – always with a smile! My thoughts are with Roger’s family – he was very proud of his girls. He will be sorely missed by all who were fortunate enough to have known him. …

Roger was a family man devoted to Claire and immensely proud of Eloise and Sophie and all that they have achieved in their formative years. He was a highly skilled finance director, intelligent, hardworking and always gave 100% to the company. Roger was loyal, enthusiastically helped his colleagues to achieve their goals and maintained a sense of humour even when times were hard, earning the respect of everyone that he worked alongside. His contribution to the success of the business was huge and I found working with him a pleasure. The premature passing of such a genuinely decent person is hard to comprehend and patently unfair but if God was seeking a brilliant accountant that can do almost anything with an Excel spreadsheet, then he has found the right man! Roger will be greatly missed by me and all of us that had the good fortune to know him.   …

Hearing more about Roger and speaking with people at his funeral reminded me how much he effortlessly helped & supported others with enthusiasm and energy. I know he would be deeply proud of his family, especially his two girls, and all he achieved throughout his personal life and career.  …
