I often hear the growth history of HORIBA Group from our big leaders like Mr. Horiba. In that, Richard is always mentioned as one of the key pioneers of HORIBA’s global expansion.  It is not only in UK but also other countries in entire Europe.  Without his contribution, we could not have come this far today.  I personally remember productive and tough discussions with Richard about many difficult matters related to MEXAs in UK.  I learned a lot from him and I am always grateful for that. Please accept my deep and sincere condolences to Mrs. Drake and all the Drake family.  …

I first met Richard whilst working at Worcester when Horiba acquired the Schenck business. I found him to be Gentlemen, a true Professional whose door was open to all. He always had time for the individuals who worked with, and for him. It’s sad that he did not have the retirement he deserved. My sincere condolences to his Wife and Family. Paul Smith…

Though, as a junior employee I did not have direct dealings with Richard, he always took the trouble to greet to me and sometime struck up a conversation.  Just shows his amazing consideration for all his employees.  I was also impressed by his work ethic.  Often one of the last or the last to leave on Friday evenings.   (A marked contrast to my previous MD.)  I also remember a particularly outstanding birthday cake spread from the Drakes.   His kindness, consideration, and in many other ways which I heard of, must have greatly helped making Horiba a good place to work at.  I think his influence will live on for many years as the current directors have tried to emulate his care and consideration.  I am so sorry that he was not given the time to enjoy a long retirement as he certainly deserved one….

To the Drake Family, I am deeply saddened by your loss of a wonderful husband, father and grandfather. I first met Richard around 2006, over lunch, when we first met to hold exploratory talks regarding the relocating of medical from Bedfordshire to Northampton. Always a true voice of reason, Richard was a very warm, wise, kind, friendly, supportive, and knowledgeable man. Richard was simply a great leader and a true gentleman and will be missed by all that had the pleasure of knowing him.  Rest in Eternal Peace my friend!…

I was really saddened by the death of Richard, so soon, too early.  I always remember Richard always having the time to stop and ask how you are?, and how the family was especially the “Grandchildren”. One thing that i was always remember about Richard, when i first joined Horiba and every consectutive year after, he would always send a personal email to you to wish you “Happy Birthday” this is something I will always treasure, in most companies this was never known.  It was a great pleasure to have known Richard and be part of Horiba.  My sincerce condolences go out to all his family.x…

Myself and my family are so thankful for all he has done for us over the years and his friendship which means so much. Take care RD as you begin the next part of your journey. I was saddened to hear of Richard’s passing he will be missed by all that were fortunate to have known him.  He was a genuinely lovely man who cared about everyone and their families, not just as a boss but as a friend, often asking how they were doing at work or at School. He has left a lasting impression not only on me but on my family and will be fondly remembered. I am grateful for the help and encouragement he gave me over the last 20 years of working at Horiba. My thoughts go out to Sue and family at this sad time. xx    …
