Paul Ryan

It is with great sadness that we share the news that, after a short illness, our former headteacher, Paul Ryan passed away this week.

Paul was headteacher at The Winns for 15 years, from 2005 until his retirement in 2020. He was a great headteacher and under his leadership he raised the profile of our school, both in terms of performance and positive community ethos. He was well liked by the children, staff, parents and the wider Waltham Forest community. Many of our families, especially those with older children, will have fond memories of Paul throughout their time at the school and many found him to be a gentleman; always kind, thoughtful and warm. During his time at The Winns, Paul worked tirelessly to make sure that every child received the very best education, care and support to help them develop into kind, caring individuals.

We all thank you Paul for having such a huge impact on the lives of all the children who attended The Winns. You will be sadly missed.

Our thoughts and most heart-felt condolences go to Kim, his wife and their twin boys.

All my boys went to school while Mr Paul was the headteacher.  My eldest son Antonio remembers him very well and he was shocked to learn about his sudden death.  An amazing headteacher.  Rest in Peace Mr Paul.  …

Mr Ryan imbued the Winns Primary school with a truly caring and child-centred ethos that permeates to this day. The ethos he fostered ensured that the school has always felt like a very warm and welcoming community school. Both of my children were upset and shocked to hear of Mr Ryan’s passing as he has a very positive place in their memories of school. We wish his family the most heartfelt condolences for their loss.  …
