In Loving Memory of

Monty Clarke

“Monty Clarke was a valued member of the Payroll team for over 24 years. He was known for far more than just his work; he was a friend to many people from all over the College and a friendly face to many, many more. His natural ability to make people feel welcome and his genuine care for others made him a much beloved member of our community.

Monty will be deeply missed, and this book will stand as a record of our memories of him.”

Dear Monty   I still can’t believe you left us so soon. I will miss your friendly cheeky and caring nature and your ability to make me chuckle. Thank you for sometimes slowing down to walk with me to the tube station and ensuring others don’t knock me over. I am forever awed by how easily you complete the crossword in the Metro. I had hoped to do another crossword with you someday on another journey home. Farewell friend, I will remember you always.    …

Dear Monty, I am still trying to take in this news of your passing. You were those kind of people who everybody would love to have as a friend and as a work colleague. There was never a time when you would not have a nice word to tell people whenever you would meet them. My thoughts are with your family and children. Your love for them was known by whoever knew you. Rest in peace Monty. xxx…

I truly cannot believe this is real. You was one of the reasons i lasted in the Payroll office for so long. You was a true friend and will be missed greatly. From our lunchtime outings to Gloucester Road, too our long chats about our troubles. You had a heart of gold and would do anything for anyone. Even if it meant you spent most of your day chatting to others, and getting yourself into trouble. RIP Monty xx…

My dearest Monty, Oh how I cried when I heard of your passing. My heart literally felt like it broke. He always takes the good ones. It just does not seem fair, and I am truly devastated. With you, what you saw was what you got; that’s my favourite kind of person. Straight, honest, open, deep and warm. You were a unique and wonderful person. I think it might be fair to say that both you and I were not really morning people…ha ha! We often bumped into each other on the way from the station to walk up to the office in the mornings and then maybe again going back down in the evenings. In those ten minute conversations, we’d chat about anything and everything, contemplating all the many weird and wonderful things about life, but ultimately, we’d be laughing! You were an infectious human-being and everyone loved you! I know you had some troubles in your life, as we all do, but you never complained. You lived your life with integrity, dignity, and a whole lot of fun! I can’t explain or begin to describe how sorely you’ll be missed. My heartfelt condolences to all your family…

I was so incredibly saddened to hear of the passing of dear Monty. Monty was always so kind, so chatty and always had time for you. Monty always wanted to brush up on his Russian speech so we would have excellent banter in my mother tongue. I will miss those moments. I also want to extend my deepest condolences to The Clarke family, he will be missed by so many within the college. I wish you oceans of strength during this challenging and heartbreaking time. …

Monty, one of the all round good ones!  It is with such sadness these words are written, but having known you for many years I can’t think of a time when I saw you anything other than upbeat, smiling and laughing. That positivity spreads and you certainly made people around you feel good. All these messages are testament to your decency, your sense of fun and just for being a great person.  It was a privilege to have known you.  Condolences to your family – their loss must be immeasurable.   …
