In Loving Memory of

Linda Happe

We are sorry to announce that Linda Happe, Early Years Manager at Queen Mary’s Westfield Nursery, passed away suddenly in June. Linda was a much-loved member of staff and popular with parents and children in her care.

Linda joined Queen Mary on 11th September 2017 and many of the Queen Mary community will have met Linda as she led the nursery team who cared for many children of staff members and the local community during her time at the nursery. Linda passed away on 5th June 2021.

Karen Gravell, our former Deputy Nursery Manager, said of Linda:

“Linda was not only my manager, but she was also my friend. Together we survived the lockdown, a flood and Covid!

As the nursery manager, she was hardworking, professional and supportive. She always went above and beyond her role. Since starting at the nursery nearly 4 years ago, the nursery has gone from strength to strength, because of her passion for Early Years shining throughout, which motivated the team to strive for the better. Linda was so family orientated both at home and at work. Parents and children loved her. Children would always pop into the office daily, always for a long chat! or to show her something they had found outside! Often you could always find Linda in one of the children’s rooms, sleeves rolled up and getting her hands dirty.

She was a fun loving person who loved cats, her holiday’s, pink gin and her collection of handbags, which she often had to hide from her husband!! Linda is irreplaceable and will be missed by everyone that knew her.”

Our condolences go to Linda’s husband Roberto, who is a valued colleague within the Nursery team, her family and friends.

We were devastated to read the news and offer our deepest condolences to Roberto and Linda’s loved ones, friends and our “Westfield Family” as she so lovingly put it. Linda would always tell us that she remembers her very first home visit whe she joined Queen Mary: Ardeshir was 5 months old and both sets of our parents had made themselves scarce in the adjoining kitchen to “give us space” but were doing some serious eavesdropping.  In the months that followed, Manju and Linda expertly took all of us under their wings, not just our little boy.  In the years beyond, our conversations and bonds grew to include so many university and personal soties.  We were looking forward to taking our ouwn Westfield family photo on our last day with Ardeshir, as a sweet chronicle of the past 4 years. Linda was a fierce advocate of her staff at University-level, and rightfully so!  I must confess that I was always the willing accomplice and cheerleader.  She would often speeak of the professionalism of her staff with complete conviction and such pride in her voice.  She was, of course, absolutely right and in my eyes, this included her as the…

I had the pleasure of knowing Linda when I joined Thomas Coram in 1998. Linda always demonstrated an absolute dedication to the children in her care. She displayed a continuous desire to learn and was always willing to try new ideas. Linda was an incredibly dedicated colleague. She will be remembered for her extraordinary commitment to the care and learning of so many children as well as being a wonderful colleague. Such a sad loss.  Gone far too soon!  Linda was a lovely lady, she was inspiring!  Every time myself and Linda had a conversation, I always walked away with a good feeling.  Linda loved her job and I believe she loved working at Queen Mary.  I remember when we interviewed Linda, I knew before I even scored that she was the one!!  She will be so missed by so many.  My thoughts go out to her family at this very sad time and I pray that they are able to think about all the good things and the good memories with Linda and I hope this helps their grief.
