I met Ken and Mavis when my late mother-in-law came on a long holiday from The Gambia in 2010.  Mama Phebean and Aunty Ayo were cousins. Now the three of them are no more. My husband Sam Williams passed away in April 2020 just months after returning from Aunty Ayo’s funeral in Freetown and Ken almost a year later. We never saw it coming. I remember Ken regaling us with stories of him and Mavis in Freetown and I always enjoyed their teasing each other.  Ken would always walk us back to the car chatting away and wait till we’re out of sight.  We miss you all and will remember you always. Rest in Peace.    …

Kenneth Desmond Newman-Smart, my namesake. I knew him for well over 50 years. I will not here recapitulate on our escapades together; he was full of life. He was pleasant. Unassuming, a compassionate father and very fond of Mavis who was also his buddy. What a great loss to Mavis, Karl and the rest of the family and friends. God knows best and will guide and direct you, Mavis. May his soul rest in peace….

Today Ken is your 1st anniversary. We are still missing your emptiness to us but God knows the best. You are safe and you are sleeping in the hands of the Lord peacefully. Your spirit is with us. Keep on having your rest. RIP….

Ken, I can’t believe a whole year has gone by without you being here. They say time is a healer but it has not gotten any easier. I still miss our constant banter. I still miss your presence. I do miss my big brother. I believe you are a beautiful wild flower in God’s garden, cheerfully and casually basking in the sun. Continue to rest in peace Bro. I will always cherish the time we had together. Aisie….

We can’t believe that it is Ken’s anniversary, come so soon. We miss you Ken. On our last visit we had several chats relating to you and your dearest wife, Mavis Newman-Smart. You may have gone but your living examples of life experiences will not be forgotten. You did your job on earth and now that period of goodwill ended suddenly. We believe that you are in a better place now. It’s sad you left us so suddenly. To the Newman-Smart and Pabs-Garnon families we say God knows best why he was called home so soon. May his soul rest in perfect peace and harmony and peace. Amen. …

Remembering dearest Ken on the first anniversary of his death. We honour him as a loving husband to Mavis, devoted father and grandfather, so fond of his siblings, all his family and friends who meant so much to him. He blessed so many people. We pay homage to the life of an amazing person who had such a remarkable career as a teacher and mentor, transforming student lives. I was indeed fortunate to know such an inspirational figure. May his Soul continue to RIP….
