Memory Book of

Jill Kay

This memory book is for our beloved friend and colleague Jill Kay “everyone’s work Mum”

It’s with incredibly heavy hearts that we mark the passing of our friend and colleague Jill Kay, who we lost on 30th December after a short but very brave battle with cancer. She was surrounded by her family in a room filled with love.

Jill has been a part of GDS for many years, most recently as our Head of Programme Delivery for Digital Identity and she will be sorely missed. Jill brought energy, warmth and humour to everything she did, her pragmatic, straight-talking approach united teams, and inspired others.

She’s been right at the centre of the Digital Identity programme for the past four years, always happy to lean in and proactively resolve issues as well as finding the time to nurture those around her, including our apprentices who have benefited hugely from her gentle guidance and support.

Jill will leave a big hole in DI, wider GDS and in the hearts of all the people whose lives she touched.

Jill had a remarkable way of making everyone feel seen and valued. She was always there to offer a laugh and she really took me under her wing when I was just an apprentice starting out. Whether you were a new face or someone she’d known for years, she had a way of connecting with everyone and making them feel at ease. Her kindness and heart made the workplace a better place, and she will be missed by all of us who had the privilege of knowing her….

Jill, the most endearing soul. Supportive, kind and caring in so many ways and always lifting up so many. I am so lucky to have crossed paths with you. I remember bondng with you and our  chats about our families and how you created a safe space for everyone. Such a personality that everyone could relate to you and confide in you and seek assurance from you. You made everyone feel so inclusive. You leave such a personal legacy that touched people’s hearts and am truly saddened. Rupi xxx…

I will miss you Jill, you were such a kind and caring person and always willing to go the extra mile to help people. You helped me so much in the time that I knew you, but most of all you made work fun, even when it was difficult. My thoughts are with your family who I know you loved so much….

Jill was such a wonderful, fun, caring, and positive person! I feel incredibly fortunate to have worked with her. She was like a work mum to me, always looking out for me and taking the time to check in to see how I was doing. I always looked forward to our catch-ups and am so grateful for all her guidance and support. Her smile could light up any room she walked into, and her presence was always so positive and uplifting. Jill leaves a big gap in the lives she touched, one that will never be filled. I will always remember her with a smile on my face, just as she always was. With love and heartfelt condolences, my thoughts and prayers are with her family during this difficult time….

I worked alongside Jill for a relatively short time, yet she brought such joy, empathy and fun to all our interactions. She was a true professional, yet approachable, warm and fair. Sitting next to Jill in meetings was like sitting in the mischevious corner and I loved that we got really serious, commercial stuff done, whilst sharing some humanity. She made the world a better place. My sincerest condolences to all her loved ones xx…
