In Memory of

Graham (Gibbo) Gibson

Graham was larger than life; he worked hard and expect others to pull their weight. And so he would never ask anyone to do what he would not do himself. His ability to gather and work well with a team was amazing.  He would always go the extra mile just to see a project completed properly.  He was “old school” as some would say, but he always get the job done.

He was honest as the day is long, and if you wanted an honest opinion about anything, he would be the person to go to.  Grant you, if you were not willing to hear the truth do not knock on his door.

Over the years he worked sites all over the world, some in countries we have never heard about.. but the fun is when he comes back there was always a tale to tell.

Graham, was more than a colleague to us and we will miss him intensely.

Our thoughts go out to Ali, the children and grand children.

The passing of Graham was a sad day for everyone who had known  and worked with him. He was a good team leader, one of the old school who believed in getting the job done but to do it right the first time. Graham was a genuine person, experienced and always supportive in our endeavours, even during hard times but always  to looked on the bright side of life and encouraged others to do the same. My sincere condolences to Ali who no doubt was Graham’s rock of support during his  prolonged illness. May he rest in peace. John Pearce.            …

My heart felt condolences to Ali, Family and Friends. What a thoroughly decent down-to-earth guy, you just can’t help but like. I first met Gibbo around 2002 in Singapore working on FPSO Brazil. That was my first project with Gibbo. We also worked on Yoho too. We would sit in his office after work (have a ciggy) and shoot the breeze. Gibbo always had a story, or experience; it was great just to sit there and listen. Even in the last 2 years we would catch up occasionally, and he still had his stories. I really am going to miss talking to you (or should I say listen). Rest well good buddy…

“Gibbo”, My best and dearest friend for more than three decades. A person you could always trust… Always had your back…was  there for you..through thick and thin.a Kind and generous to a fault..never one to judge. Always generous with his view of others. Totally dedicated to his work..often to his own detriment. And so much larger than life!  A character akin to Hemingway… My heart goes out to his soul mate, Ali, who was always there for him..and us all… Well miss you dearly my friend…your kind are so rare in life..so dear to us all.. With Love ..John      …

Gibbo, a man you just couldn’t help but like! I have so many fond memories of working with Graham at Bluewater on multiple projects and was deeply saddened to hear of his passing. He wasn’t only an excellent project manager and very dedicated, he also had such a huge character and great sense of humour that once he crossed your path you could never forget him.  My sincerest codolences go to his family and friends.  …

Very Sorry to hear of Graham’s passing and my condolences to Ali and Family.  I met Graham way back in my early days in Singapore kicking off the recruitment agency, although I had contact with him prior to this time. He was very helpful with local info/tips to guide me forward in my new environment which probably saved me making too many unexpected mistakes. He was also very sociable and full of stories about his life and travels with the oil/marine industries.  One of the good guys, he will be fondly remembered by all who had the good fortune to have met and worked with him. RIP Gibbo.       …

Graham was one of my favorite customers in the Bluewater Bar on Friday evenings. He always made me feel very special saying he was my best bar friend. When Graham was in the bar there was always a special atmosphere in which all the colleagues loved to hear his special stories from his travels all around the world. After the bar evenings he invited me plus the rest who was left in the bar for drinks and snacks in Leiden in “De Bruine Boon” or in “De Werff” were we continued the special bar evenings where I took most of the times the last bus to Warmond, a small village in the neighbourhood of Leiden where I used to live then, or a taxi when it was to nice to leave. Graham made sure I never had to pay as he apprciated me being his special friend as the Bluewater bartender which I still am for more than 22 years now. Although he left Bluewater a long time ago I will remember him as my special bar friend. I wish his familiy all the strength for this great loss….

I am saddened to hear about Gibbo’s passing away and offer my sincerest condolence. At Bluewater, we sat at the same / opposite office desk for several months. He was doing a Buoy project in Soedan and I was doing a Buoy project in Ghana. He was my mentor and I learned a lot from him. I remember him as easy going, thought full, allways a solution at hand, practical at even the most complex issues. Apart from sharing all those pleasure moments with him we also shared pencils and other utensils. I will cherrish his “double hole perforator” as a momentum of our good times together. I wish you all the strength to cope with his loss, my thoughts are with you. Warm regards Thor…

In one’s life you only come across a few people who make an everlasting impression. Graham was such a person to me. Being a rookie QA engineer in the 1990s, he was the one who teached me some valuable life lessons. Working on his projects was demanding, but in a good sense, and never dull. For me, it was an ongoing learning experience combined with good humour and adventures. I fondly remember the times in Batam, Singapore, and especially our audit trip to China. I will also never forget his and Ali’s farewell to me when I left Bluewater to pursue my career somewhere else. Graham Gibson: a remarkable man who now is sadly gone. May he rest in peace. My heartfelt condolences to Ali and Graham’s family. Kind regards, Hans Nagtegaal …

I met Gibbo when just starting at Bluewater and had the opportunity to travel with him to Cochin, India for a project meeting almost 20 years ago. Although he left Bluewater shortly thereafter I still remember that trip vividly today, where you “ordered” me to ride on an elephant as part of project experience in India….. Rest in Peace Gibbo….
