In Memory of

Dr. Paul Stanley

September 1967 – June 2025

This book is a space to remember and reflect on the life of Dr. Paul Stanley, a colleague, mentor, leader and friend who meant so much to so many. Whether you worked closely with Paul, shared a conversation, or simply admired him from afar, you are warmly invited to share your memories, thoughts and tributes here.

Paul’s warmth, integrity, and generosity of spirit touched every corner of his life – from the boardroom to his seat at the piano in his favourite pub. We hope this book of condolence becomes a lasting tribute to the many ways he made a difference, both professionally and personally, and a space to honour the memories he leaves behind.

Please take a moment to write something from the heart, however short or simple, to help celebrate a life that was truly well lived.

Paul was more than a CEO – He was a mentor, an inspiration and a friend. I always admired his fairness, his integrity and his ability to lead with both strength and kindness whilst being an excellent ambassador for Achilles. His guidance and support meant a great deal to me, and I will carry the lessons he taught me forward. He will be missed but never forgotten With heart felt gratitude and respect…

I first met Paul in person at his beloved “RAG” club in 2022 to discuss the Achilles role. From outside in, it appeared to be a challenging turnaround he was attempting so I looked him in the eye and asked him if he knew what he was doing. Turns out, he very much did. I will miss his unflappable demeanour, his candour and honesty, his sense of fun and of course his many anecdotes from what seems to have been a life very well lived. The response to this tragedy from those who knew him even briefly speaks volumes about the type of man he was and how he touched so many of us. My sincerest condolences to Susie, his sons and the rest of his family of which he spoke so fondly. Phil…

It’s hard to overemphasise just how respected Paul was within the Achilles business. I only had a few interactions with Paul however it was immediately apparent he was a man of integrity, highly professional with a clear vision for Achilles which he shared generously. My most memorable meeting with Paul came on my second day with Achilles, when I joined my sales colleagues for a 2-day workshop led by Paul. Despite high expectations of the team, Paul was eminently reasonable, highly practical with a unique ability to offer direct feedback and guidance.  It’s very sad to lose Paul, his loss is felt throughout Achilles. Our thoughts are with Susie and his family at this time. …

Paul truly felt like family to us at Achilles. It’s still hard for me to imagine Achilles without him. He was strong, visionary, and above all, a remarkable person. I can’t put into words how much I admired him—he was a man of integrity, and it was through him that I felt a deep, personal connection to Achilles like never before. One of the things I’ll always cherish was his weekly blog. It wasn’t just an update—it was Paul’s way of keeping us all informed and included, sharing the company’s direction, his plans, and even where he would be in the coming week. It was the first time I saw a CEO be so open, honest, and committed to ensuring that every employee understood where the company stood. That transparency meant a lot to all of us. Beyond the professional, Paul was a true family man. His love for Susie was always so visible and genuine—it was deeply moving and something I deeply admired. I want to extend my deepest condolences to Susie, his family, and to all of us. This is a profound loss we all share….

Being only two months into Achilles, I unfortunatley never got to meet or speak to Paul directly. However, upon getting hired I remembered that Paul was the first person at Achilles to add me on LinkedIn. We had never even spoken but he was the very first. From that I noticed how deeply involved he was in not only the business, but the people as well. The way that my fellow co-workers speak about it him, I wish I could have met him and experienced what they did. Rest in peace, Paul….

Paul was not only a very inspirational leader and manager, but he was also very sociable, and I have many fond memories of his (and sometimes Susie’s) visits to the Nordics. I will miss those visits and his Friday newsletters that demonstrated his unique ability to gather and summarize knowledge and put it into theoretical context….

I had the incredible opportunity to meet Paul and share small but meaningful moments with him. I can confidently say he was one of the most brilliant and generous people I have ever met. Always attentive and approachable, he radiated a warmth that made everyone feel appreciated and valued. He had the gift of always being present, always ready to offer good advice or a kind word. His way of seeing the world, both simple and profound, left an indelible mark on those of us who had the privilege of meeting him….

Paul was as impressive as a colleague as he was an individual, always going out of his way to make you feel valued and able to form strong personal connections with all, whether through his weekly emails, providing insight into the business and sharing personal updates, or just a friendly chat in passing. He will be well missed….
