It is truly difficult to express the loss & sadness I feel at Cleve’s unexpected passing. He was a charismatic leader with a clear vision of what needed to be achieved. Leading by example. Hardworking, always putting in more than others and putting others first. Inspiring, kind & very fair. He gave his time generously and was always entertaining & funny. Some of those who knew him have expressed the shock & loss as heartbreak. I understand feeling that loss despite only knowing him for a relatively short time compared to some of his other colleagues & friends. Cleve will be missed by all who have crossed paths with him over the years, his colleagues, and especially by his family….

I remember that every time I was in the office, regardless whether I had somethig to discuss with you about work, I would always pass by your office to say hello and have a quick chat!  I remember when I had an issue, either personal or professional, you always listened to me and made me feel better, more optimistic, lighter. I remember the energy you had to try new things, develop, expand, encourage me and the others to push our boundaries, the attitude to keep seeing the bright side of things when we were facing challenges.  I remember your Jerusalema dance and always being up for dancing and having fun! I remember that everybody wanted to be your friend, cause you were so cool in so many ways.  I remember in events  and big meetings, Cleve Wright was like a rock star.  I remember how stylish you always were and I was telling you that you are the most well dressed colleague I have, but don’t tell anybody!  I remember it was Friday and we talked after 6pm. You were telling me about the latest on your plans for Gambia, your wedding, the cruise, the future.  I remember when…

“ mon ami Cleve ” as I liked to call you in French. 26 years working together since the opening of the European offices … so many memories together, so many laughs, so many good times shared … Our exchanges in French always made me smile and laugh with that charming accent, just like the humour you had that I loved. Cleve, you had the power of making those around you happy, and I was one of them. Your kindness and laughter will remain engraved in my heart forever. My sweet thoughts of support are with all your Family and Friends. I will miss you terribly, RIP “ MON CHER AMI ” Cleve….

It was a sad news and words fall short to express my feelings. I had the chance to meet Cleve so long time ago that I believe he was always part of my life as a familly member. Cleve was a wonderful person, and I will always remember him for his humor, generosity and care, a real good person that never leave people who meet him, even for few hours, indifferent. He was among all the most charismatic and charming men I met, I will always cherish the memories we shared and the time we spent together. My deepest condolences to Cleve’s family, my thoughts and prayers are with you during this painful time….

Cleeve , you has always been driven by respect for others. Whenever I’ve had meetings with you since 20 years when i joined Horiba, that’s what emanates from your personality. A humanity and a genuine interest in the people you was dealing with and their problems. On a purely personal level, we had an African origin in common, which you always claimed, as I often do, to underline even more the universality of the values that transcend us all, such as listening and respect for the people with whom you worked, both in terms of content and form, and of which you was the most emblematic representative that I have ever come across in the Horiba group. Over and above the business aspects and the technical issues we dealt with together, this is what I will remember about you and the exemplary human values he demonstrated at each of our meetings. Condolences to your family….

I cannot believe that you are not here anymore, Cleve… First time I met you was five years ago… It was my interview at Horiba UK… thank you for giving me the opportunity… completely different thoughts of you on that day… but I had the pleasure to get to know you more in those years… I will always remember you; the kind and friendly, understanding and supportive, caring and generous person you were, you always had time for a good conversation, always checking up on how I’m doing, how is family… Thank you for being you… Gone, but never far from our hearts. Oh my lord Cleve – you were always the most amazing client and industry friend and will forever be one of those very special people I had the pleasure to work without throughout my time in the diagnostics industry. The news of your passing is still very hard to digest as I can only imagine what a huge hole you will leave in so many peoples lives and sending special love to your family. Thanks to a chance intro to you (by Colin Dalziel) at one of the many diagnostics industry events I enjoyed, I met you when we were setting up our marketing agency. You were without doubt a huge part of our success (yep, sorry for all those invoices and TLTR emails) but working with you and your ABX/Horiba team was an absolute career highlight – so many fun meetings, exhibitions, user meetings and wonderful trips to Montpellier and without doubt good to be with the fastest man through Charles De Gaulle airport when chasing a Friday evening flight! Your are one of the few I have met along the way who was loved by all – friends and family for sure, but across the diagnostics industry,…

Words can’t describe how devastating I am. You are such a gentleman with the kindest heart. The first time I met you was at my 2nd interview, and I still remember the questions you asked me. You made me feel so welcomed and I didn’t know a boss can be so easy to talk to until I met you. Thank you for always making time to talk to me and being so supportive like a friend. I’m honoured to have known you and have the pleasure of working with you for the past 10 years. Your lovely sense of humour always brightens up our days and put smile on our faces. It will never be the same without you and you will always be missed. Xuefeng xx    …

Whenever Cleve stood up to give a speech at Horiba, I expected to be entertained.  Whatever, the subject, his droll, almost Marvin (TV HH) like, method of delivery, well it is unmatched.  My interactions with him were limited to switching off the light in his office when he was still in (the light switches are all jumbled) and pinching his office for the rising desk.  However, I did once grill him about his life and we had a good chat.  So sad that he was stolen so early….

Cleve, you left us too early, which is a bit ironic You had a style about you that was sometimes, iconic. If there was a school for cool, that’s where you graduated Accepting the norms, you always attenuated Standing up for the right, to be seen as you were Took courage and insight and a fair bit of dare Cleve, you left us too early.   You left us too early, to say our goodbyes I’m just one of many shocked, with tears in my eyes Thankful for the unique perspective Always something upon which, to be reflective As you look down now, I wonder what you’d say I’ll ponder that for many day You left us too early   You left us too early Cleve With all your plans in the air ATUNBI, Papaya and Grapes all laid bare Man you knew how to do it, and you did it again No more splendid moments, farewell my old friend,  You left us too early…

I was deeply saddened to hear about Cleve’s passing. It feels like just yesterday we were talking outside the main engineering entrance. He always had time for a conversation about anything. I still can’t believe he won’t be around to share words of hope. Cleve was a remarkable person who touched the lives of many, and his loss is felt profoundly by all who knew him. While words may offer little solace, please know that my thoughts and prayers are with you and your family. May you find comfort in the cherished memories and the love that surrounds you. With deepest sympathy…
