In Loving Memory of

Chris Waterman

It is with great sadness that we share the news that our friend and colleague, Chris Waterman, Global Head of Short Tail Lines, has passed away following a short illness.

Chris’ contribution to Zurich and the insurance industry overall is profound, with an international career spanning four decades. He joined Zurich in 2016 as Chief Underwriting Officer for Singapore, moving on to become Head of Commercial Lines Underwriting for APAC, before joining the global team in Switzerland in 2020 to take on his most recent role. Before joining Zurich, Chris held senior leadership roles at AIG spanning multiple geographies.

Anyone who had the pleasure of knowing and working with Chris will remember him as a supportive, knowledgeable leader. It was a privilege to work and collaborate with Chris. He was not afraid to speak his mind, but always in a fair and balanced way.

Chris approached his illness with dignity, showing immense professionalism at work that he was so renowned for, but retaining a strong sense of humor and care for his team. We will feel his loss deeply within Zurich and across the insurance industry.

We extend our deepest sympathies to Chris’ family and friends, who remain in our thoughts.

I was saddened to hear about the passing of Chris. Although I didn’t have many encounters with him, I always appreciated his kindness and respect for others. He never sought to impose his views and appear superior, always striving for balance and understanding in his interactions. This quality, among others spoke to his deeply good nature.  My heartfelt condolences go to his family.  Sincerely,    Marco  …
