In Loving Memory of

Alan Rudkin

Alan Rudkin sadly passed away on 3rd September 2024.  He had worked with us here at Nordoff and Robbins since 2011, having previously trained as a music therapist on our MMT course.  Alan was a wonderful and exceptional music therapist, colleague, friend, mentor, leader and musician. He brought much love, humour, kindness and compassion to his clients and to those of us that were lucky enough to know him.  Alan will be sorely missed and his loss felt deeply amongst us all.

These pages are a place for us to all share our memories, stories, songs, poems, photos, escapades and love of Alan, and to celebrate his life.  This book will be shared with his loved ones.

To all Alan’s family and friends, I am so sorry for your loss.  I only met Alan once – all too briefly – but I was struck by his warmth, humour, humility and kindness.  I have learned much from watching some wonderful and moving extracts of his music therapy work.  He was an outstanding musician and music therapist and we were blessed to have him as a colleague and mentor.  Thinking of you, Annie xx…

Dearest Alan,    I remember your tutoring on our masters course and will never forget your input with our music making. So sorry to see you pass and you’ll be in our memories forever.    Best wishes, Fraser M…

The laughter in this picture sums up Alan. I keep expecting a phone call, ‘hello chuck’ or ‘eh up chuck’ or ‘hello Tracey speaking’ that was a little bit about work and a whole lot of talk and laughter in between about anything and everything. I had the great honour of seeing Alan delivering his sessions in Huddersfield. such a talented and exceptional musician, I was in awe and absolutely loved watching him work with his clients with such care and above all with sincere warmth, smiles and laughter. There is a great sense of emptiness now that we all feel across Nordoff & Robbins.  To Stephen and all of Alan’s friends and family reading this, please know that he was such a huge part of N&R and loved by so many. Rest in eternal peace Alan, I like to think that you are still making music and carrying on entertaining everyone with your infectious laugh and funny anecdotes with Louis barking along by your side. Lots of love xxxx…

Such a sad loss of someone who has impacted so positively on so many people’s lives. Alan’s love of music and passion for engaging people in experiencing and enjoying music has always been clear for all to see. I’m sure he will be missed and remembered fondly by all of the staff and people supported within Horizon Healthcare Homes. It was always a warming welcome to a home when you could hear Alan’s voice and the music he was playing floating across the car park and then hearing and seeing the joy he was bringing to people when entering the building. Our thoughts are with Alan’s family and friends at this sad time….

What a great man Alan was! I remember first meeting him back in 2015 when i first started in Horizon. He was such a happy soul and always full of life. I hadnt met anybody quite like it in terms of music therapy, Alan took his job seriously and the atmosphere and smiles he brought to peoples faces were priceless. I remember making songs and him taking part in a video that was made for the Horizon website many years ago we had so much fun. Alan will be missed by all at Horizon. …

One of the funniest, kindest and warmest people to have graced this Earth. Alan-I will miss our phone calls and chats that were 5% work and 95% nonsense. I will miss your cackle of a laugh and the warmest of hugs, your infectious enthusiasm and the way you would light up a room within seconds of entering it.  A truly special spirit and a brilliant music therapist who I looked up to so much (especially when you came over to the dark side and managed the NWNW team…) It was the texts asking me when I’d be at the pub and always staying for ‘one more pint’. You were one of a kind. My love goes out to all Alan’s friends and family. He has left a massive hole in our hearts and a huge gap at Nordoff and Robbins. Always remembered and loved xxxxxx…

Alan – a wonderful musician, a gifted music therapist, by far the better half of the ‘manual training duo’ and the person who always seemed to root out the Scots hiding in the bar…and thank goodness too, for his company was second to none!! Very sadly missed. Rest in peace Alan X…
