I first met Helen when we were both outreach workers, had training courses and supported families together. Helen was at Rosendale Children’s Centre and I was supporting families with children under 5 in Temporary Accommodation with the 2 year old pilot. Helen was one of the gentlest souls I have ever met and worked with. She was so caring, kind, thoughtful, compassionate, welcoming, and hardworking, always wanting best outcomes for the families we so dearly and passionately support.
These qualities radiated in her when she had her adorable twins and first brought them to Liz Atkinson Childre’s centre where she worked as manager and I work with LEAP. Her love and care for them was so wonderful. It was so natural because she was used to doing the same for other families.
Helen was so passionate in supporting parents that her last job, in developing and managing the Parenting Support Services was so dear to her heart. She was keen to ensure every child gets the best care, thrive, and achieve the best outcome in life. She would always go extra mile and beyond to ensure parents and carers are supported, trained, and given the right tools needed to give their children the very best care, love, and support.
It was a great shock when I heard that Helen has passed away. I’m still in shock and all I can think of is her determination to make sure that every child matters. Her infectious smile will remain in my thoughts.
Helen has had great and lasting impact in the lives of Lambeth families and will dearly be missed. Her legacy will continue.
