I had the good fortune of chatting with Kome on a few occasions during departmental events. However, it wasn’t until last August that we had the chance to catch up in a more relaxed setting when I bumped into her at the club during her hen party. I enjoyed sitting with Kome and her friend Mon a few months later at the department’s Christmas party.
Kome was completing her DPhil while I was starting mine. She was a great inspiration to me due to our shared ethnicity, the excellence of her research, and the recognition she received for it. Not only was Kome a brilliant researcher, but she also had a kind heart and a warm smile. Her passing has left a huge void in the lives of many. May the Almighty provide comfort to her loved ones.
