I had only spoken to John a few days before I heard the news, we talked about him coming over to watch Will play for his new club. It sums John up for me, he genuinely cared about others and would go out of his way to see them happy.
My thoughts are with his family and loved ones in this most difficult of times. I’m so sorry for your loss.
Like others I didn’t know him for very long but immediately he was easy to get on with and was universally liked at the club. With so many stories, some of which I’d heard more than once and an encyclopaedic knowledge of old British comedies. John had a dry sharp wit which made people instantly warm to him and of course he knew much more about the game than he would ever let on.
His special skill however, was making connections with everyone. He was excellent at this.
He was my friend and I will miss him.
RIP John
