One of the pleasures of attending the international NIR conferences is meeting old friends, and one of the greatest of these pleasures was the chance to chat with Chris again.  It is hard to come to terms with the fact that he will not be there in Innsbruck this summer.  We will not see that wonderful smile again.  We will not be able to learn from his wealth of knowledge and practical experience, which he was so generous in sharing.  He was widely known and respected in the NIR community and will be sorely missed by many.  I would like to express my deepest condolences to his family and work colleagues, for whom his loss must be heart breaking.
