Douglas 'Dougie' Benstead

I love this picture of Dougie, he is wearing my late dad’s RAF uniform for a 1940’s style family party, celebrating Tom and Dee’s diamond wedding anniversary. My dad, Ken, thought the world of Dougie, he always admired his hard work, enterprise and skills.

I first met Dougie when he married my cousin Lesley, they epitomised what a good marriage is all about. We loved his wry sense of humour, his kind and gentle ways, he really was a good man with a beautiful soul. He could always be relied upon to give some sage advice, especially if it concerned some building project or house purchase and we were grateful to him for his help when we bought a little holiday home near to where Lesley and Dougie lived in Spain. In fact, they spotted the property and knew it would be ideal for us, we trusted their judgement and put a deposit down without even seeing it…

We shall miss him very much, RIP dear Dougie. I bet my dad in heaven has his arm around you now.
