I’ll always remember turning up to a school netball session when I was about 14 years old and being introduced to our new coach, Emma. Having her on the sideline brought a different kind of energy. Her words and passion alone could give you stamina when you felt like there was nothing left in the tank. She had the hallmark of all the very best coaches…the ability to get the best out of you, even if you didn’t believe it was there yourself. 

About 10 years later, I got a text from Emma asking me if I would come and coach at her club. She wouldn’t take no for an answer. I’ll forever be glad she didn’t. She has introduced me to the most lovely club full of fantastic people, and I got to coach and play alongside Emma and her amazing energy again.  

Emma taught me a lot on the netball court, but even more off it. She’s shown me how to approach the most difficult of times with an optimism for life and immeasurable strength that I will always be inspired by.
