Rupert Bates

Dear, dear Rupert!

Rupert had and continues to have the most profound effect on my life and how I live my life today. When I heard the sad news of Rupert leaving us, I felt a void opened up that couldn’t be filled, but as the days passed my gratitude rises up in me for what Rupert brought to my life.I think of the love and support he gave to me and many others.

Somewhere between April and July 2004 I was blessed to meet Rupert and ask for his help, which he told me would be an honour and a privilege. From that point on my whole life started to change.

Time spent with Rupert was the most valued time. I would always look forward to seeing him, be it at a meeting, at home with Carole,Angharad and Morgan, when we would do some work together and especially when it was one to one. Rupert would say “Keep it Simple”, “All will be well”, “Carry the message for the newcomer”, “Constant thought of others”,”The grouch and the Brainstorm are not for us”. We would laugh at “Explodinding over a Trifle”.

When we worked together in Construction, we would shout and laugh bouncing off eachother like it was an ongoing comedy sketch. As I write I can hear him.

Rupert was not only my sponsor for the last 16+years he was the most wonderful friend.

Rupert’s light will shine on.

I miss you mate, God Bless.
