It’s hard to add much to what everyone else has written. One particular memory of Vantil stands out for me – him turning up to a client meeting (with a tricky investment consultant) wearing his vivid alligator shoes, when everyone else was wearing a dreary grey or blue suit. Of course we all worried that it would create ‘the wrong impression’ for a serious investment meeting – actually what the consultant took away from the meeting was Vantil’s utter authenticity, as an investor and as a human being. The fact that he was free to be himself in that context spoke volumes about his ability also to invest in a way that was true to himself (rather than just saying what we thought the consultant wanted to hear).
