Olga Elizabeth Rowson
To John, David and Barry and all the family
I was only lucky enough to know Olga in the last few years and during that time we became friends, which is very nice as you don’t make as many close friends as you get older. We started at the Castle together on the same day and over the years had many good times. Olga could be very funny and was popular with all the staff and the visitors into the Castle. We would plod around the grounds and museums in pouring rain and gale force winds but once back in the shop Olga would always look her usual smart self (once she had taken her rollers out of course). She would also have ways of walking around the gardens which avoided all the steep steps; I will remember that later in the year when I am back to tracing her footsteps.
We spent many hours together in the library working out her itinerary for her planned return to Wales, sometimes getting looks from other users as we would have a laugh together about something. We did try to be very quiet and did lots of whispering. I promised that Ann and I would visit her there as soon as the restrictions ended. Sadly none of that will happen now and I still can’t believe that she won’t be there with us for the new season.
God bless Olga, I hope we meet again.
