Don Butler

It was November 25th 1972 and I was playing for Old Mods against York at Cookridge in Leeds . Mods beat York that day and after the game in the clubhouse a certain Don Butler introduced himself and asked if I would be interested in going on tour with his team York Unicorns, it was the infamous tour to Munchengladbach which made Tv news after many of the players and Don decided to miss the bus and ultimately the ferry back to the uk. This started a long lasting friendship with Don which even when I moved to the USA stayed in place, every time I have returned on vacation etc I always got the train to York and met up with him for a coffee or a beer – 48 years a friend I will sorely miss his friendship and commeraderie which added so much to my life through him over all these years RIP Don Butler “Mr Unicorn” no more 3am train journeys from York to Leeds RIP “Unicorns are Happy Unicorns are Free”
