Kenneth Desmond Benedict Newman-Samrt was the tertius to late Professor Newman and Mrs Viola Smart was born on 19th June 1954 in Freetown Sierra Leone, followed by his Quartus Daphne. The Primus Gloria and Secundus Donald are now in the safe arms of Jesus.

Into the foundations of a stellar pedigree from which platform he was able to blaize his own trail in life. His academic sojourn commenced at the Fourah Bay College primary school to St Edwards Secondary School followed by pursuit of a discipline in Economics at the University of Sierra Leone, graduating in 1980. He subsequently proceeded to the United Kingdom to specialise in Accounting given the passion he had for the discipline.

Ken was simply and unequivocally the gold standard. He was naturally polite, gentle, and placid but yet projected confidence. It is often said that the eyes are the windows of the soul but with Ken it was that disarming smile which spoke volumes about the person he really was. Kenensman as he was fondly called by some of his friends your spirit is currently witnessing this solemn occasion in this virtual space as no one know tomorrow.

To his darling wife Mavis, son Karl Marlon who is my Godson, Daphne and Alex (Ace) daughter in law, grand children, nephews, nieces, cousins, sister in laws, friends and colleagues “leh we all ush”

Though it will assiste with healing no amount of words can bring about closure. When Daphne called me on the 19th January and informed me of his death in that moment I lost my decorum and blurted out “bo nar lie” you mean cool and calculated Ken before gaining my composure. As we say farewell to our beloved Ken I urge us all to be courageous, empathetic, supportive and provide a rock for the family in the months ahead and I invoke the chorus of that famous hymn sing the wondrous love of Jesus when we all get to heaven what a day of rejoicing that will be when we all see Jesus we will sing and shout the victory. Indeed the victory is his because he is in a divine place and therefore we should all take comfort from the knowlege that it is well with his soul.

I do not know what to say whether its au revoir or good bye my friend and brother.
