Our late Gracious Majesty Queen Elizabeth II
I received the sad news of the body death our Late Gracious Majesty Queen Elizabeth II on the eve of 8th September here in India. On 10th September – Sunday, India observed a day of mourning for Queen Elizabeth II with flags lowered to half-mast on all government buildings, I clicked a picture of the Railway Station at my town Nadiad.
I do remember very well that she showed a handkerchief which Mahatma Gandhi gifted her on her wedding to our Indian Prime Minister Mr. Narendra Modi in 2018 during his visit to Buckingham Palace and this info was shared on Twitter by Mr. Modi as a part of his mourning message.
I was fortunate to get the invitation for the opening ceremony of our society’s new building at 15, Abchurch Lane in London on 26th November, 2019 and it was my pleasure to meet H M Queen Elizabeth II.
I was impressed by her humble, respectful and focussed attention to the people she was meeting with a pleasant smile, I do remember her comment during our converstation when I said that we are thankful to King George V for The Royal Philatelic Collection which he made available for the students of philately and I further added he was a great collector and she replied with smile after thinking for few seconds that “He was a proper collector” those words are still echoing in my ears.
Ma’am – Rest in Peace – ॐ शांति …(Om Shanti )
