Emma
Emma was the most generous, empathetic and insightful person both on and off court.
As both a player and coach, she had an infectious enthusiasm and endless positivity. On court, she was the epitome of a game-changer. You knew that when she was playing, the team would play immeasurably better: with more dynamism, fight and better tactics. She was truly the force which propelled our team up from County and through the ranks of the regional divisions.  Her ability to call to each player, the right direction to move in as the ball moved at speed up the court was a skill that I have never encountered in anyone else. I attribute many of my interceptions to her brilliant calls. Emma had the ability to change the course of a game – at either end of the court, and I feel truly lucky that I was able to play with such an exceptional player and call her a team-mate.
As a mother and member of the community, she was an inspiration. Her pride and love for Nancy, Jamie and Ella will forever touch my heart. The countless good deeds which she organised for her local community were achieved through hard work and dedication, and continued even after her diagnosis. Her positive approach to her initial diagnosis and the treatment thereafter was nothing short of astounding. Her characteristic fight and drive knew no bounds.
Whilst we were very lucky that Emma chose Harpenden Netball Club to coach and play for so many years, what has become clear is just how many people in the netball world she has touched. Players she has played with ‘many moons ago’ have sent condolences, as have girls she has taught (many of whom have joined Harpenden). Whole leagues of players have spent a minute clapping her memory.
Emma was truly one of a kind, but I am sure her legacy of positivity and fight will continue to inspire all those who have been lucky enough to play with her, be coached by her, called her a friend, or been touched by her community spirit.
To Emma’s family, words cannot express how much I wish this had not happened to you all. Sending you my most heartfelt condolences and love to get you through the difficult times ahead xxx
