Chris Holland

I first met Chris when I worked at Mercer Australia and he took the team out for dinner – he was friendly and jovial and it was lovely to put a face to a name behind the ‘quick question’ emailer.  When I returned to live in the UK I began working closely with Chris, the ‘quick question’ emails, changed to ‘u free?’  instant messages – but everytime they made me smile.

At work he was calm, reflective and friendly.  I admired Chris, he always rose to the challenge, had smart insights and managed to translate them to our leaders to have a meaningful impact.  I learned a lot through working with him and for that I will always be grateful.

Family always came first with Chris and over the last five years I have loved learning about the family’s adventures in Boston and sailing trips with Thomas.  Chris was an incredibly proud father – Thomas I have loved hearing all about you growing up, from taking your GSCES, A levels and your plans for med school.

When I was pregnant, Chris provided reassurance when I was worrying ‘don’t worry, there is always something, it will all be fine’ and it was.  He also provided the sound advice that when I am exhausted from the newborn sleepless nights to try and remember ‘that there are not many children still not sleeping through the night at 18’, followed by his infectious laugh…  He did have a good sense of humour, I will not forget the christmas nutcracker decorations he had on his desk greeting us with a ‘hello, how are you?’ in his  attempt at ventriloquism!

I feel deeply saddened that he is no longer with us – Lindsey and Thomas, I send you my heartfelt condolences in this really difficult time.  Know that Chris was a very much loved and respected member of the Mercer family and all of our thoughts are with you both.

Chris you will be missed, rest well.
