Alan 'Big Al' Hoare

Alan,

I was shocked and deeply saddened to hear of your passing. I’ve known you as a family friend for as long as I can remember, with many good memories that bring a smile to my face – days out with James when me and Sam were kids, watching Vince and his band play at the golf club, and you and my Dad taking it in turns to give my first boyfriend ‘the vetting’ in the Cricketers one night when I was about 19. I wanted the ground to swallow me up, but I knew you had good intentions and I laugh about it now (needless to say, he didn’t stick around!). And in more recent years, giving me a temporary admin job at London City Bond in the lead up to Christmas one year. I’ve never been in an office environment with such colourful language before, but I thoroughly enjoyed my short time there.

I am sure you will be sorely missed by your family and friends, and like others have said, you were a true gent.

I know my Dad will be pleased to see you on the other side, wherever that is, and have a beer waiting for you (for once) while you catch up over old times and laugh with the dry humour you always shared.

May you rest in eternal peace having lived a great life and being loved by so many.

Love Kirsty & Ben
