Paul Vernon

Thank you Tracie for organising such a wonderful memorial to Paul. The ones from our dear school friends have brought back some wonderful memories of our time there together. I wasn’t sure quite how to write down my thoughts, so it has ended up more of a letter. Thank you for all the love and care you gave to Paul for so many years. I know you made him very happy. Please know that he will be always in my heart and remembered forever.

Dear Paul

I will always remember your friendship. Age 15- new school. You, and your friends were so welcoming. It was reassuring and familiar to meet every day in the library, at the first window bay as you walked in. Sitting and doing crosswords, chatting away about music, books and life. You always looked up, greeted me and moved up to make space.

And then, when our teenage world looked broken you looked up, hugged me and made space again- you were such a rock during those days although I know you were broken too.

Your strength has been such an inspiration these last few years too, as you have battled your own fight. I’ve been so privileged to be in contact with you through that time. I know your time was precious. You never failed to awe me with your positive, but pragmatic attitude, and your honesty about your future. You took what control you could over your last months- you did what needed to be done and you said what needed to be said- compassionate in your approach and allowing yourself to break every now and then.

I know you have touched the hearts and minds of so many people- ones who knew you well by sight and others who knew you well through your gaming world. I will always hold you in my heart and you will not be forgotten.

Sending you love Kerry x
