We never met, Resh but you and your family are very much in my thoughts. Your eulogy is a lovely tribute to Ian and I know from my infrequent chats with him that he thought the world of you and the children. The last time I saw him was at the annual dinner of the Law Society Local Govenment Honorary Members’ Group held in Leeds. He regaled everyone at the table with the story of our parallel existence. Ian was nearly two years younger than me, but we both lived in Appleton Road, Hull as kids. We both went to Appleton Road Junior School and the Hull Grammar School. We were both in the Bricknell Avenue Methodist Church Cubs and Scouts. In fact we were in the same Scout patrol and often went on patrol camps at the Melton Scout camp. We both studied law at Newcastle University (and later in life at Northumbria University) and we both worked in local government in the North East. We were colleagues for a short period in Sunderland. Ian was a lovely man and someone I was proud to know.
