Christopher Harvey

I went to Helston secondary school and college with Chris; I was in his tutor group (H) and sat next to him in several classes.

We drifted apart after college, but recently heard of his passing, and thought I’d share a few memories for those who didn’t know him back then.

You won’t find another person who knew him at school, who has a bad word to say about him.

He was a genuinely lovely guy, intelligent and with a passion for maths and physics. He always had a unique way of thinking about things, with his own quirky sense of humour. It was obvious back then that whichever path he chose, he would succeed at. He had little interest in sports, but it was clear that he would achieve something great in science or maths, which it appears he has gone onto to accomplish.

Aged 15 in a PE lesson, we both kicked a football at the same time, which injured my knee. It was a complete accident, and he was very apologetic, despite it clearly not being his fault. Ever since, whenever my right knee twinges, I think of him with a smile on my face.

During a maths lesson in year 10, he once told me he was thinking about buying a Star Trek uniform to wear, as he was a big fan. Fearing other’s might not understand, he immediately made me promise not to tell anyone else. Up to now, I have never mentioned that to another soul.

Chris, I hope you got your Star Trek uniform, and wore it with pride.

Rest in peace mate.

My sympathies to his friends and family
