I am so very sad and shocked to hear of Joe’s passing. I first met Joe way back in 2013 when I was new to QM and he came to fix something in my office in the Maths Building. He was so bright, cheery and welcoming to me; he then noticed a picture of my hometown of South Shields on my wall, and became even more animated as we spent a long time talking about his time there, and how much he enjoyed it. In all the years since I have seen him countless times, and every time he was just the same as that first meeting. He knew absolutely everyone and buzzed all over the campus for his work, saying hello or giving his lovely smile to so many people along the way. Joe was a true gentleman, and had a presence that lit up any room.  Sending my very best to his family; he will be missed by so many colleagues and friends. RIP Joe; gan canny. x
