I first met Jim on joining Scottish Friendly Board as a Non Exec in around 1994. Jim was not long back from passing his MBA with the encouragement of Scottish Friendly. It certainly proved a good investment for both.  I particularly took to a wonderful dry sense of humour well mixed in with a great intellect. He was a wonderful colleague, particularly helpful in explaining many of the complexities of actuarial science which was such an important part of the business. The society has lost a fine leader and a good friend to all.
