We have both been much saddened to learn of John’s passing. We taught at Berwickshire High School (Eileen in Classics/Modern Languages, David in History) when John was Depute and then Rector. It was a very particular era for the school (as well as for education in general) and John was completely dedicated to the school’s success, very much in charge but always in his own quiet, unassuming manner. John’s stewardship of BHS was a time on which we look back fondly. We send our condolences to Elspeth and to Helen and Katharine whom we also remember, with equal fondness, in the classroom.
