I think of Bernie as someone everyone loves as he was always so welcome, so open, so cheerful, so Bernie! I remember him as one of my favourite lecturers, I remember him teaching us all things biology- and life- related. One memory of those classes is of Bernie accompanying himself of a preserved donut to tell us the story of how he once found himself in a serious road accident and how we should appreciate each moment.
